NMIT 2nd Convocation
On the 27th of July 2015, NMIT had its 2nd convocation ceremony at the Persada International Convention Centre, Johor Bahru. More than a hundred students celebrated diploma success and a total of 138 graduates were awarded at the event, which was the institute’s second annual graduation ceremony.
The Guests of Honours at the ceremony were Yang Berhormat Mr Md Jais bin Sarday, Chairman of the Education, Information, Development Centre of the State of Johor, representing Yang Amat Berhormat the Chief Minister of Johor, and Yang Berhormat Senator Tan Sri Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah bin Abu Shah, the Chairman of the UMNO Malaysia Education Bureau.
NMIT conferred the Menteri Besar Award to its top student, Mohamad Zulhafizi Mohamed Rasid from Diploma in Port Management who has achieved excellent academic performance and showed exceptional leadership qualities during his studies at NMIT. A student under the FELDA education scheme, he is to join the Petronas Shared Materials and Services Organisation in Kerteh as a department warehouse and logistics supervisor.
The Aziz Award, sponsored by Dato’ Captain Hj. Abdul Rahim bin Abd Aziz, the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Pengerang Maritime Operation, Dialog Pengerang Sdn Bhd was awarded to the two second best academic performers. The recipients were Muhamad Fadhil Anuar from Diploma in Shipping Management and Nurul Amirah Azahari from Diploma in Maritime Transportation Management.
The Yaacob Award, sponsored by the Founder and Chairman of Yayasan Yaacob, Tn Hj Yaacob bin Hj Ali was awarded to Nur Amirah Mazlan, Mohamad Hafizuddin Mohamad Hanapiah and Mohamad Zul Azri Mohd Azizan from Diploma in Maritime Transportation Management, Diploma in Port Management and Diploma in Shipping Management respectively.
“There is no doubt that our graduates today have the potential to become catalysts for change and innovation in the maritime industry. Our objective in educating the youth is to deliver innovative solutions for the country’s economic future and a pool of world-class talent,” said Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology’s Chief Executive, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Aziz Ibrahim.
In line with this vision, NMIT will be offering Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree programmes in 2016 including the Certificate of Competence Programmmes for Seafarers.
NMIT is poised to break into the global market with our graduates.
Our diploma holders are eligible to a Bachelor’s degree at Southampton Solent University, United Kingdom, after which they will be allowed to pursue their postgraduate programmes at Masters and Doctorate level under a collaboration signed with Southampton Solent University in 2014.
NMIT has also signed an agreement with Australian Maritime College (AMC) which allows its students direct entry into AMC for internationally-recognised graduate maritime qualifications.
Most of the NMIT graduates are already employed or have undertaken their further studies within 6 months of graduation.
40% of NMIT graduates have continued their studies in local universities while 12% are pursuing their degrees overseas. Among these successful graduates, 9 have completed their degree programmes from Southampton Solent University, 3 students have chosen Australian Maritime College, while others have also joined Lincoln University (New Zealand), Newcastle University (United Kingdom), London Business School (United Kingdom) and Kaplan University (Singapore).
