Graduates of the 3rd Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology Convocation Ceremony were gathered at The Persada Johor International Convention Centre on 7 September 2016, to celebrate their success and achievements. Her Excellency Mrs Karin Mössenlechner, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Malaysia, was the guest of honour and was at hand to present the diplomas to the students.

The 284 students who were conferred their diplomas today expressed their excitement and relief as they advance to a different stage of their lives as a part of the maritime family. The event which began at 8.30 am. was a festive affair as it witnessed the graduates of

Diploma in maritime Transportation Management, Diploma in Shipping Management and Diploma In Port Management receive their diplomas in front of an audience filled with proud family members and friends. Among the students Who received their diplomas today, 14 of them will be or are currently pursuing their degrees overseas at Southampton Solent University, NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences and Australian Maritime College while 57 of the graduate will be pursuing their degrees locally. 185 or more than 65% of the graduates are employed with a majority working in the shipping and

port and logistics field, One of its graduates has also secured a position with Sharaf Group in Oman, a prestigious shipping and logistics company in the region Several NMIT graduates who have successfully completed their degrees In Southampton Solent will also continue to pursue their masters at the university. In line with its quest to receive its university college status, MIT will also begin offering bachelor degrees in Maritime Technology, Port Technology and Shipping Technology.

NMIT has also celebrated a productive year as it signed Memorandums of Understanding With several international academic institution namely with the Dutch Offshore Academy, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport as well as the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences. This demonstrates MIT’s commitment towards ensuring that its graduates are equipped with abundant opportunities internationally be it through their academic pursuits or their maritime careers.

In the same ceremony, Mr Kamaruzaman Munasir, assistant General Manager, Corporate Services and Development Division of Johor Port Authority presented the Johor Port Authority Best Student Award to Afifah Balqis binti Amir while the Johor Port Authority Industry Award was awarded to Muaz bin Zamri, The Educity Award, which was sponsored by Educity Iskandar Sdn. Bhd. was awarded to Nur Haziqah binti Japar while the recipients of the Aziz Award, sponsored by Dato’ Captain Hj Abdul Rahim bin Abd Aziz,

the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Pengerang Marine Operation, Dialog Pengerang Sdn. Bhd, was awarded to Hajar Norsyafiqah Adiyana binti Abdul Zubir and Muhamad Hafiz bin Abdul Karim. The Yaacob Award, sponsored by Haji Yaacob bin Hj Ali, was awarded to Puteri Amalia binti Azar Firdaus, Saran Kumar a/l krishnan and Hana Humaira Binti Md. Hanapi.

The ceremony was also attended by several esteemed members within the Malaysian and Singaporean Dutch community, Among the guests included members of the Malaysian Dutch Business Council as well as representatives from the Singapore Embassy of the Netherlands.

This successfully showcases NMIT’s close relations with the Dutch community within the Southeast Asian region as it draws inspiration from the hardworking and innovative Characteristics that the Dutch and the Kingdom of the Netherlands Is renowned for.
